Super Eagles and Lille striker Victor Osimhen fulfilled a childhood dream on Tuesday, September 17 when he made his Champions League debut.

Osimhen who joined Lille in the summer played a Champions League game for the first on Tuesday but his debut wasn’t as delightful as he would have loved as his side fell to a 3-0 loss away at Ajax.

For me, it’s a bittersweet feeling because this competition has been my dream since I was growing up but it’s like it started in shambles,” the Nigeria international told Oma Sports TV.

But I think I’m being positive about this and I think in the next game, of course, we are going to do it right.

Despite the frustrating night at the Amsterdam ArenA, Osimhen is still proud of making his Champions League debut.

It’s a great feeling for me, I have been dreaming of this competition, of course, I watch the game every time and for me to come to this place to play in one of the biggest stadiums in the world and against a very organised teams like Ajax, I think it’s a dream come through for me,” he said.

I could have been happy to get the win and also score but of course I have to go back and learn more and try to improve in the next game.”

As he continues to grow as a player, Osimhen is beginning to show his fiery side and was seen expressing his frustration several times during the game.

But the youngster said he was just mad at some missed chances in the game and promised to do better in the next game.

We could have gotten one or two goals and I also had a couple of occasions where I could have scored and when these balls don’t go in I’m very angry with myself and I know I can do more,” he said.

I’m positive. it’s a lesson learned and we are going to go hard in the next game and try to win.”

We are going back to look at this game and learn our mistakes and of course against Chelsea it won’t be easy but I think with our fans behind us we are going to get a positive result,” Osimhen added.

We want to win and the game and I want to give my all and get the goals.”

Osimhen has had a fine start to life in France with Lille with five goals in five league games. He will be looking to add to his tally when Lille travel to Rennes on Sunday, September 22.
